FAQs

Do I need to remove old adhseive residues before laying a levelling compound? For most floor levellers that is the case. However Setcrete Level-Smart is a specially designed compound for use over adhesive residues, saving time and effort. Setcrete Level-Smart can be applied directly over residues such as bitumen, carpet tile tackifiers, carpet adhesives and similar products, providing that any loose material has been removed. The mechanical removal of such residues can be costly and time consuming, but a product like Setcrete Level-Smart is the answer. It doesn't even need priming prior to application.
What is the maximum depth that Setcrete Deep Base can be laid? The product can laid between 5 and 50mm deep.?
Do I need to do anything else before I install a floorcovering?Depending on the type of floorcovering you are going to install a further floor levelling compound may be required. This would be important, for example, if you are to install a vinyl floorcovering where any imperfections might show through after installation. This would be less important if you were installing ceramic tiles.
How can I estimate the amount of Setcrete I require?Firstly assess the amount by which you need to raise the floor level. Now check the coverage rate on the Setcrete datasheet. You will then be able to estimate the number of bags you require. Alternatively, please use our handy Coverage Calculator located on the right hand side of your screen.
Can Deep Base be mixed by hand?We recommend that the product is mixed for a minimum of two minutes using a mixing paddle and a suitable drill.
Can Deep Base be used externally?Deep Base is for internal applications only.
Can Deep Base be used over underfloor heating?Deep Base is suitable for use over both wired and wet under floor heating systems. Electric heating must not be turned on for at least 7 days after installation.
Can Deep Base be used over wooden floors? For wooden floors we would recommend that the floor is first boarded with a minimum of 6mm flooring grade plywood, screwed down at 150mm centres and also screwed down at 100mm spacing around the board edges. The plywood should then be primed with dilute Setcrete Acrylic Primer (4 parts water to 1 part Primer) and Setcrete High Performance applied.
Can Deep Base be installed without a DPM?It is important to ensure that there is an effective damp proof membrane in place prior to installation. Waterproof Surface Membranes (WSM’s), such as Setcrete Rapid Set DPM, are available to create an impervious layer if there is no existing DPM in place. Once a WSM is used, Setcrete Deep Base can then be applied.
Do I need to prime Deep Base?Yes, priming prevents the unacceptable rapid drying of floor levelling compounds over absorbent subfloors and promotes adhesion to non-absorbent surfaces.
Can Deep Base be used over quarry tiles where no DPM exists? It is important to ensure that there is an effective damp proof membrane in place prior to installation. Waterproof Surface Membranes (WSM’s), such as Setcrete Rapid Set DPM, are available to create an impervious layer if no existing DPM is in place.
Can you mix SBR with Deep Base? No, Deep Base is designed as a one part water mix floor levelling compound the addition of any material such as an SBR could dramatically decrease the products performance and lead to a product failure.
Can you mix SBR with Universal? No, Universal is designed as a one part water mix floor levelling compound the addition of any material such as an SBR could dramatically decrease the products performance and lead to a product failure
Can it be used over underfloor heating?Yes Setcrete Rapid Set Wood Flooring Adhesive is suitable for use over underfloor heating systems.
What is your fastest drying floor leveller?Setcrete Rapid Set 30 has a walk on hardness time of 30 mins and floor coverings can be installed after 45 mins. Standard floor levellers take 3-4 hours to walk over and 24 hours before they can be covered.
Do I need to remove old adhseive residues before laying a levelling compound? For most floor levellers that is the case. However Setcrete 2K Pro is a specially designed compound for use over adhesive residues, saving time and effort. Setcrete 2K Pro can be applied directly over residues such as bitumen, carpet tile tackifiers, carpet adhesives and similar products, providing that any loose material has been removed. The mechanical removal of such residues can be costly and time consuming, but a product like Setcrete 2K Pro is the answer. It doesn't even need priming prior to application.
What makes Setcrete Latex different to the other standard floor levellers on the market?Setcrete Latex can be applied in a greater range of depths (2-10mm) than the standard 3-6mm of other brands. It also boasts a coverage of 5.75m2 per unit compared to the standard 5m2 per unit. Due to the cement technology that is used Setcrete Latex also has greater smoothing and levelling qualities.
Can I use a floor levelling compound over wooden floorboards? For installations over floorboards it is recommended that a minimum of 6mm plywood is applied (screw fixed at 150mm centres), then primed with Setcrete Acrylic Primer, prior to the installation of Setcrete High Performance to a maximum depth of 10mm.
Can I use Setcrete Universal in heavy duty areas?Setcrete Universal is designed as a light duty (domestic) use floor levelling compound. Therefore it is recommended that Setcrete Flexible is used under these circumstances.
Can Universal be used externally? No, Setcrete Universal is for internal applications only.
Can Universal be mixed by hand?We recommend that the product is mixed for a minimum of two minutes using a mixing paddle and a suitable drill.
Can Universal be used over wooden floors? For wooden floors we would recommend that the floor is first boarded with a minimum of 6mm flooring grade plywood, screwed down at 150mm centres and also crewed down at 100mm spacing around the board edges. The plywood should then be primed with dilute Setcrete Acrylic Primer (4 parts water to 1 part Primer) and Setcrete Flexible Floor Levelling Compound applied.
Which tools and equipment are recommended to apply Universal? It is recommended that the installer have access to a measuring implement to gauge the required water addition, a mixing bucket, a smoothing trowel, a mixing paddle and a suitable drill.
Can Universal be installed without a DPM?It is important to ensure that there is an effective damp proof membrane in place prior to installation. Waterproof Surface Membranes (WSM’s), such as Setcrete Rapid Set DPM, are available to create an impervious layer if no existing DPM is in place. Once a WSM is used, Setcrete Universal can then be applied.
Do I need to prime Universal?Yes, priming prevents the unacceptable rapid drying of floor levelling compounds over absorbent subfloors and promotes adhesion to non-absorbent surfaces.
Can Universal be used over quarry tiles where no DPM exists? It is important to ensure that there is an effective damp proof membrane in place prior to installation. Waterproof Surface Membranes (WSM’s) are available create an impervious layer if no DPM exists.
Why do I need to prime?Priming the subfloor prior to the installation of a floor levelling compound is crucial to gain a high adhesion strength between the levelling compound and substrate and to also gain a better surface finish.

If applying to a highly absorbent surface, the water within the levelling compound is likely to be drawn into the subfloor causing rapid drying of the levelling compound this results in an imperfect finish such as cracking and pinholing.

Priming over non-absorbent surfaces is imperative to gain the required bond strength.
How long until Setcrete Rpaid Set Repair Mortar can be trafficked?Setcrete Rapid Set Repair Mortar can receive foot traffic after 1 hour.
What depth can Setcrete Rapid Set Repair Mortar be applied up to?Setcrete Rapid Set Repair Mortar can be applied in depths from 3-20mm unfilled and 20-50mm filled with 3mm graded agregate on horizontal surfaces. On vertical surfaces the product can be applied up to 10mm in depth.
How long does the adhesive remain receptive for?The 'open time' for Setcrete Rapid Set Wood Flooring Adhesive is up to 20 minutes depending on temperature, humidity and absorbency of the subfloor.
What floors can be adhered with Rapid Set Flexible Wood Flooring Adhesive?Setcrete Rapid Set Woood Flooring Adhesive is suitable for the installation of engineered or solid plank, wood block and wood strip flooring.
What is the coverage per unit? 8.2m2 using the spreader provided.
When should I use a DPM?Buildings that were constructed pre 1965 are unlikely to have an effective DPM installed at the time of construction. This means that moisture is able to permeate through the subfloor and cause damage to the performance of any floor levellers used and also the appearance of floorcoverings.

If you have used a moisture meter and have received a reading of over 75% relative humidity (RH), then the floor is not suitable to apply levelling compounds or floorcoverings over the top until the moisture issue is resolved. Setcrete Rapid Set DPM can be applied over damp subfloors where readings of 75-98% RH have been achieved. The DPM can receive a Setcrete Floor Leveller or Setcrete Rapid Set Wood Flooring Adhesive after 3 hours.

Buildings that have a newly laid concrete base will take 1mm per day before they are ready to receive a levelling compound or floorcovering. Usually ground floor bases are at least 100mm deep and therefore require a 100 days to dry prior to covering. Setcrete Rapid Set DPM can be applied over newly laid concrete after 7 days which should save 93 days within a building programme.
