Setcrete’s Rapid Set floor preparation system has enabled the floor of a new kitchen extension in a family home in Kingsley, Staffordshire to be protected against moisture, smoothed and levelled and laid with ceramic floor tiles – all within a single day. The fasttrack performance ensured the floor was ready for kitchen installers to install a fully fitted kitchen the following day.
To counter the threat of residual construction moisture in the newly-laid concrete base, the 29m2 floor area was first treated with Setcrete Rapid DPM damp proof membrane. This two part epoxy resin system requires just one application to provide total protection against subfloor moisture and cures in just three hours. It is then immediately ready for the application of an appropriate floor levelling compound. Waiting for the concrete base to dry out naturally would have taken approximately a day for every 1mm thickness of the concrete.
Setcrete Rapid Set 30, floor leveling compound was applied over the DPM, following the application of Setcrete Acrylic Primer, which promotes the adhesion of the leveling compound to the DPM. The Rapid Set 30 provided a smooth and level surface, free from imperfections, on which the ceramic floor tiles could be laid. Setcrete Rapid Set 30 is ‘walk-on’ hard from just 30 minutes and is ready to receive a new floor covering after only 45 minutes.
Commenting on the performance of the Rapid Set system, homeowner, Stephen Mills said: “The speed of the whole preparation process was incredible, going from a rough concrete surface in the morning to a super smooth, totally dry floor in the afternoon and a fully tiled finish by the evening. The appearance of the finished floor is perfect.”
