Setcrete provides perfect finish for iconic Edinburgh pub

Setcrete High Performance levelling compound and wearing surface has been used in the refurbishment of the renowned Frankenstein pub & restaurant in Edinburgh. Contractors used the professional floor-levelling compound to create a sound, level surface for the installation of floorcoverings in the pub’s newly created Bier Keller area.

Commenting on the use of Setcrete products at the iconic Edinburgh pub, John McDonald, Owner of Kenmure Flooring Ltd., said: “This is the first time I’ve used Setcrete, and everything worked exactly as it said it would. The levelling compound was perfect for this job, as we were working over plywood, and it didn’t need too much trowelling. Our clients will definitely be happy with the end result.”

Contractors from Kenmure Flooring Ltd. were called to Frankenstein pub to help create a brand new Bier Keller area on the lower-ground floor of the building. After arriving on site, the contractors found the existing plywood subfloor to be in very bad condition. The contractors also faced short lead times in order to have the floor finished in time for the arrival of new fittings. The contractors therefore needed to create a smooth, level surface suitable for the installation of new floorcoverings in the shortest possible time.

After overboarding the existing plywood floorcoverings, the contractors primed the surface with Setcrete Acrylic Primer, guaranteeing good adhesion between the levelling compound and the substrate.

Setcrete High Performance floor levelling compound and wearing surface was then used to create a perfectly level surface for the new floorcovering installation.

Setcrete High Performance is a fast drying, fibre-reinforced, flexible levelling compound and wearing surface. It has been purposefully designed for use over plywood subfloors, as well as concrete and sand/cement screeds. The compound has excellent self-levelling properties, and can be walk on hard in as little as one hour.
